On June 2oth Handi Medical Supply hosted 27 Doctor of Physical Therapy students from St. Catherine’s University.  The 1 ½ hour sessions were devoted pediatric mobility equipment and were instructed by Alicia Truebenbach, ATP, CRTS.

We talked about what the different equipment is and what the justifications for funding are for each.  We also discussed what the role is for each person in the disciplinary team.  We ended with the “state of the industry” and the need to establish a separate benefit for Complex Rehab Technology through legislative means in order to maintain access to equipment.

Join us Monday, July 18th at the Crowne Plaza, 11 East Kellogg Blvd, St. Paul, MN 55101 for this seminar discussing symmetry & asymmetry pressure & stability that will change the way you look at seating!

In the morning session you will be guided, in an interactive way, to feel, analyze, and understand why we sit the way we do. The core of our discussion is to make you more aware of what is happening in your body when you sit and why you change your position so often.

The afternoon session is for wheelchair users visiting us. Together with wheelchair users we analyze, discuss, and come to conclusions on what to do. We dig deep into the analysis of quality and design of seating systems, like measures, softness, contours, and angles, to discover how different features directlyand indirectly influence the entire body.  As you know by now, Minnesota Medicaid is delaying payments in the month of June until July. We all need to take action NOW to get this reversed. This has nothing to do with the looming government shutdown, but is part of legislation passed in 2010 that authorizes DHS to delay payments in June 2011 until July 2011. Read more

The annual Heartland Conference was June 6-9, 2011 at Waterloo, Iowa.  Ten Handi employees attended and were able to sit in on courses dealing with products and issues about respiratory, wound and ostomy, rehab, repair, billing, and home accessibility.  Along with seminar courses, there was a vendor hall where manufacturers in the industry could show their latest products.  Heartland Conference draws  hundreds of professionals from around the Midwest.  It was a great chance to learn some new things and network with other people in the industry.

Gene trying out his new scooter from Handi Medical Supply

Gene was experiencing difficulty “getting around” due to arthritis in his hips and knees. His age didn’t really help him recover from his injuries, although he did visit a Knee Surgery Specialist to make sure he didn’t have any pain while trying to stretch his legs and it helped him out a lot.  A scooter from Handi Medical Supply is just what he needs to have mobility in and out of his home. Gene worked with with rehab sales representative Lisa Michaels, COTA/L, ATP, CRTS, and he was pleased to have a scooter that is easy to get in and out of; a ramp on the back of the house gives him access to his home. At 97 years of age he is feeling pretty sporty in the red scooter!
