Handi Medical Supply team members participate in the Pageant of Hope Charity Golf Tournament
Handi Medical team members: Shelly, Laurie, Nick and Matt stop to pose with some of the Pageant of Hope Princesses.
Health-related charities make up about 81,000 of the more than 1 million public charities, according to the National Center for Charitable Statistics. If you are interested in donating to a health-based charity, having such a dizzying selection can make it difficult to decide. From hospital foundations to international health and relief organizations, health charities do many different things — advocacy, support of patients and families, outreach, patient care, research — so how do you know where your money is going?
Each medical charity has an overriding mission that guides it. If that mission coincides with your desire to help, you have found the best charity for your donation. To help you find the right type of charity for you, here are some of the different kinds of institutions to which you can make medical donations so medicines and Hospital beds can be purchased.
Hospital Charitable Foundations
Hospital charitable foundations sound like what they are — not-for-profit fundraising institutions for hospitals. With today’s high cost of providing medical care, hospitals often do not have enough funds for services, programs, and equipment even after insurance and patient payments. The charitable foundations “are able to contribute to providing for care, equipment, and treatment that otherwise might not be at the same level or breadth of service if it weren’t for them,” says William C. McGinly, president and chief executive officer ofthe Association for Healthcare Philanthropy. While the hospital itself may also do research, its central role is caring for patients.
The Pageant of Hope’s Charity Golf Tournament was held at Majestic Oaks Golf Club on June 26th. It was a beautiful day for golf! More than 10 Princesses were on the course to give out treats and encourage the golfers. One of the princesses helped us putt, one helped tee off; they were phenomenal! Everyone had a great time. CMS does about-face on CPAP re-supply items
According to HME NEWS
by: Theresa Flaherty - Friday, June 15, 2012
BALTIMORE – CMS plans to change the requirements for certain respiratory supply re-orders and that will have a direct impact on how providers do business, say industry stakeholders.
The biggest change: Providers can no longer replace an item unless the beneficiary’s current item doesn’t work.
“Now, it’s not, ‘You are eligible for a new mask,’ it’s, ‘You are eligible for a new mask but is your current mask leaking?’” said Jason Holzman, general manager for cpapdropship.com. Read more

People for Quality Care, the advocacy division of VGM Group, Inc., has sponsored the I’m Still Fighting Pledge for less than a month and more than 300 providers throughout the country are pledging to engage their customers in the fight against competitive bidding. Read more
